Dry Needling

Dry needling focuses on stimulating a specific trigger point that is leading to pain and disability.  During a Dry Needling treatment, a small needle is inserted directly into a tight, painful muscle to elicit a twitch response. This twitch response causes the muscle to “release”, resulting in muscle relaxation, improved blood flow, and release tension, inflammation, or pressure on specific trigger points.

Dry needling is used to reduce pain, improve mobility, and improve muscle function. Dry needling is a relatively painless procedure with most patients experiencing a small “cramping” sensation that is very brief. This sensation is desired to elicit the twitch response. Many patients feel immediate improvement with one session, and experience lasting results in 3-5 sessions.

Physical therapists use dry needling with the goal of releasing or inactivating trigger points to relieve pain or improve range of motion.
